Ed Sheeran Debuts Ripped Physique and Opens Up About the Discipline of Fatherhood

Ed Sheeran is unrecognizable on the Jan/Feb cover of Men's Health, showcasing a dramatic body transformation fueled by a complete lifestyle overhaul. The 34-year-old superstar, who once embraced a rock-and-roll diet of pizza and beer, credits his newfound fitness to the sobering reality of becoming a parent.

For Sheeran, the shift wasn't about vanity but about being present for his children. He recalled a pivotal moment when his daughter Lyra was just two weeks old: “I went to bed, then Lyra woke up 20 minutes after I’d fallen asleep. I woke up and I was like, ‘F*, I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful.’”**

Reflecting on his past, the singer admitted that his twenties were a period of physical neglect despite his massive professional success. “I would say I lived a pretty unhealthy life from 20 to 30. Wellness is a direct mirror to mental health and the way you feel. I always felt like s* within myself; I’d wake up and look in the mirror and just feel gross,”** he confessed.

A significant turning point occurred in 2021 after watching Stormzy prepare for a show. “I look at someone like Stormzy and the training that he goes through to go on tour and that was definitely a catalyst. He was doing a hundred press-ups before he went on stage and I was staring at him like, ‘What the f* is this about?’”** Now, Ed incorporates reformer pilates and moderation into his routine, aiming for longevity over extreme training. “I’m not saying I’m done with enjoying myself. I still drink. I love red wine, I love a nice meal – but it’s not every day,” he added.
